TV Connection & Compatibility Guide

Detailed guidance for resolving TV pairing, network, and compatibility problems.

Quick Summary

Smart Remote Live connects your phone to your Smart TV over your home Wi-Fi and uses built-in local network controls supported by most modern TVs. Depending on your TV model, you may be asked to allow remote access, enter a PIN, or provide a Sony Pre-Shared Key (PSK).

Important: TV command features activate only for supported programs listed inside the app.

How Smart Remote Live Finds Your TV

  • Automatically discovers TVs on the same Wi-Fi
  • May ask you to confirm pairing on the TV
  • Some Sony TVs require a Pre-Shared Key (PSK)
  • If discovery fails, the app suggests simple troubleshooting steps

You may need to enter IP addresses manually as the last fallback option.

Before You Start

  • Phone and TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network
  • If router has 2.4GHz & 5GHz, connect both devices to the same band
  • Disable VPNs
  • Avoid Guest Wi-Fi networks
  • Turn TV ON (not standby)
  • Keep TV remote handy

Why same band matters: Some routers isolate 2.4GHz and 5GHz traffic.

This tutorial explains how to enable IP Control (Network Control) on LG webOS TVs (2018+ models) to allow third-party control systems (Control4, Crestron, AMX, etc.) to manage the TV over a network.

Prerequisites

  • A basic IR remote is required (Magic Remote may not work for secret menus).
  • The TV should be connected to a wired Ethernet network for better stability.
  • TV and control system must be on the same subnet.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Enable Network IP Control (Hidden Menu)
    1. Turn on the TV and ensure it is on a live input (like HDMI).
    2. Open the Settings menu.
    3. Go to All Settings > Network.
    4. Highlight the Connection (or Network) tab, but do not enter it.
    5. Using the remote, quickly press 8-2-8-8-8 (or 1-1-0-5 for some models).
    6. The IP Control Setup menu will appear.
    7. Set Network IP Control to On
  1. Configure Keycode & Wake-on-LAN
    1. Generate Keycode: Inside the IP Control menu, click Generate Keycode and note the 8-character code.
    2. Enable WOL: To allow the system to power on the TV, enable Wake On LAN.
    3. Wired/Wireless: For Wake-on-Wireless, enable Turn on via Wi-Fi in Settings > General > Mobile TV On
  2. Note Network Details
    1. While in the network settings, record the TV’s IP Address and MAC Address for your control system configuration.
  3. Reboot
    1. Reboot the TV (turn off/on) to ensure settings are applied.

Key Information for Third-Party Systems

  • Protocol: TCP
  • Port Number: 9761
  • Encryption: Enabled (requires keycode)
  • Default Password (if needed): 828

Troubleshooting

  • Cannot access menu: If 82888 fails, try holding the Settings button until the channel banner appears, then enter 1105.
  • TV fails to wake: Ensure “Mobile TV On” is activated and the device is on a wired connection.
  • Control4/SDDP: If using Control4, enable the SDDP setting within the IP Control Menu.
